Yes, completely. The AI models included are open source and freely available for personal and commercial use. Running AI locally on your own hardware is entirely legal worldwide.

The models included are genuinely impressive for everyday tasks like writing, research, coding and analysis. For most common uses they perform comparably to ChatGPT. However very large cloud models like GPT-4 may handle extremely complex reasoning slightly better due to their larger size.

100% yes. Everything runs locally on your machine. Your conversations are never transmitted, logged, stored or seen by anyone — not by us, not by any server, not by anyone. What you type stays on your device permanently.

Zero data collected. We have no way to see your conversations, usage patterns or any information. The AI runs entirely on your hardware with no connection back to us or anyone else.

Yes. Nothing is installed on the host computer and nothing is transmitted over the network. The app runs directly from the flash drive leaving no trace on the computer when you unplug it.

No network traffic is generated by the AI itself so there is nothing for network monitoring to detect. However we always recommend following your employer's policies regarding personal device use at work.

Any Windows 10/11 or Mac OS 10.15+ computer with at least 8GB of RAM and a USB 3.0 port. This covers virtually all computers made after 2015.

Nothing at all. The app and all AI models live on the flash drive. Just plug it in, open the app directly from the drive and start chatting. No admin rights needed.

From plugging in to first response takes about 2-3 minutes — 30-60 seconds for the drive to be recognized, 30-60 seconds to open the app, and 30-60 seconds for the model to load into memory.

Unfortunately no — Chromebooks run Chrome OS which is not compatible with LM Studio. You need a Windows or Mac computer.

Linux is not officially supported in our current packages. If you are a Linux user contact us at contact@darkmodeai.net and we can discuss options.

Yes! That's one of the best features. Plug it into any compatible Windows or Mac computer and run your AI directly from the drive. It works on as many computers as you want.

Writing emails and documents, coding help, brainstorming ideas, research and summaries, explaining complex topics, math and analysis, language translation, editing and proofreading, business advice, general knowledge questions and any task based on reasoning and language.

Since the AI has no internet connection it cannot access real time information such as live sports scores, current stock prices, today's news, live weather, recent events after its training date, or anything requiring a live data connection.

Unfortunately no — the AI has no internet access and cannot retrieve live data. For current scores, stats or news your regular browser works best. DarkModeAI excels at tasks that don't require live information.

The included models have a training cutoff of early 2024 — meaning they have strong knowledge of events and information up to that point but may not know about very recent developments after that date.

Yes! You can paste text directly into the chat from any document, email or webpage and the AI will analyze, summarize or work with that content. Some models also support direct file uploads within LM Studio.

The AI model needs to load from the flash drive into your computer's RAM before it can respond. This only happens once at startup — after that responses come quickly.

Once loaded response speed depends on your computer's RAM and CPU. On a modern computer with 16GB RAM expect comfortable conversational speed — not instant like cloud AI but fast enough for natural back and forth conversation.

The AI uses your computer's RAM and CPU while running. We recommend closing other heavy apps while using it for best performance. Once you close LM Studio your computer returns to normal immediately.

Yes significantly. 8GB RAM is the minimum and works fine. 16GB gives noticeably better speed. 32GB+ gives excellent performance. More RAM allows larger models to run more smoothly.

Each drive is set up and tested by hand before shipping. Allow 3-5 business days for processing plus standard shipping time to your location.

Yes! Your drive has plenty of storage space. With an internet connection you can download additional models directly through LM Studio and add them to your drive anytime.
